CA foundation is the entry level exam for admission in the profession of Chartered Accountancy (CA). Qualifiers in the CA foundation exam are then promoted to the next level which is Intermediate. Candidates who have either passed Class 12 or going to appear for Class 12 exam conducted by an examining body constituted by the law in India (or any examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto) are eligible for this exam. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) will conduct the CA Foundation exam twice in a year.
The curriculum for CA Foundation Examination is based on 4 papers carrying marks of 400, of which qualifying percentage is fixed at 40% for each paper and 50% of all papers in aggregate, subject to the principle of negative marking scheme. These papers are based on subjective as well as objective assessment of topics covered.
