NIOS conducts Xth and XIIth Board exams. It is equivalent to CBSE, ICSE and the State boards. It is recognized by the Central and State governments. NIOS is for those students who are not able to pursue regular studies in normal schools. NIOS is a valid and recognized board of education and it is largest open school in India. The candidates who have obtained pass certificate from NIOS is valid and recognized and its certificate is equivalent with other CBSE and ICSE boards of education. The certificate is valid throughout your life time.

The public examinations are held twice a year in April/May and October/November on dates fixed by the NIOS. However, one also eligible to appear through the On-Demand Examinations at Level and Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which candidates have taken admission in NIOS for subject wise learning. Results of the public examinations are announced usually six weeks after the last date of examinations.

It is the third largest board after CBSE & ICSE and have equivalent weightage to that of CBSE & ICSE. With 2.2 million enrolments it becomes the world’s largest open schooling system. It’s examination pattern and schedule also makes it quite popular among students.
